ALEXEI VOLODIN

Represented in Italy

Acclaimed for his highly sensitive touch and technical brilliance, Alexei Volodin is in demand by orchestras at the highest level. He possesses an extraordinarily diverse repertoire, from Beethoven and Brahms through Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Scriabin to Gershwin, Schedrin and Medtner. 

 

Upcoming highlights include concerts with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR, NHK symphony orchestras, Singapore Symphony Orchestra with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Orchestre national de Lille, and Orquesta Simfònica de Barcelona. In recent seasons Volodin has made his debuts at the BBC Proms with the London Symphony Orchestra, and with the Bournemouth, Swedish Radio, Danish Radio, and BBC symphony orchestras, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Sinfonia Varsovia, and the Orchestre National de Belgique. 

 

On tour, Volodin will join The Mariinsky Orchestra, the Münchener Kammerorchester for performances across Spain, and also NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra for an extensive 15 concert European tour. As a chamber musician he will collaborate with the Borodin Quartet, Casals Quartet, and Sol Gabetta. 

 

In recital, Volodin regularly performs at Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Paris’ Philharmonie, London’s International Piano Series and Wigmore Hall, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Munich’s Herkulesaal, Tonhalle Zürich, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional, and Barcelona’s Palau de la Musica. In 2016, he performs a special programme entitled ‘Shakespeare in Music’ to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death. 

 

Volodin has a long-standing relationship with The Mariinsky Orchestra and Theatre and was their Artist-In-Residence last season. Performances included the opening recital of 2014/15, a Beethoven Piano Concerto Marathon, and a concert featuring all five of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos. 

Recording for Challenge Classics, Volodin’s most recent disc - solo Rachmaninov works - was released in 2013. He also recorded a solo CD of Schumann, Ravel and Scriabin, and his earlier Chopin disc won a Choc de Classica and was awarded five stars by Diapason. 

 

A regular artist at festivals, Volodin has performed at Bad Kissingen Sommer Festival, La Roque d’Anthéron, Festival La Folle Journée, the White Nights Festival in St Petersburg and the Moscow Easter Festival. 

 

Born in 1977 in Leningrad, Alexei Volodin studied at Moscow’s Gnessin Academy and later with Eliso Virsaladze at the Moscow Conservatoire. In 2001 he continued his studies at the International Piano Academy Lake Como and gained international recognition following his victory at the International Géza Anda Competition in Zurich in 2003.
